I LOVE writing about fashion and beauty and sharing fun DIY videos! However, it’s also super important to me that we connect here on a deeper level and open up a conversation about some of the issues we deal with as women.
Let’s face it, life isn’t always as pretty as the perfectly styled Instagram picture portrays. To be honest, I think people are getting bored with that anyways and instead we’re craving transparency and truth.
So, today in this conversational style video, I wanted to open up a bit about my struggle with anxiety.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been a nervous/anxious person. Sometimes certain events would intensify those feelings (read: when I’m not in control) and sometimes they creep up on me for no reason at all.
This year, while planning my wedding, I experienced some of the worst levels of anxiety ever. Basically I constantly felt like there was an elephant sitting on my chest and I even started losing my hair.
This shit is real.
On that note, I recently uncovered a SUPER simple technique for coping with anxiety naturally. It’s called 4-7-8 breathing and I’ve been practicing it for the last 2 months. This 4-7-8 breathing exercise is developed by a Dr. and designed to calm the nervous system. It’s basically kryptonite for stress. So far I’ve been able to fall asleep MUCH faster and even chill the F out on a SUPER bumpy flight to NYC.
Watch the video above to learn more about the 4-7-8 breathing technique and even try a few rounds with me!
If you suffer from anxiety, I am also curious to know of any techniques that help you deal! Leave them in a comment below so we can get a conversation started.

Erika I can’t thank you enough for creating a post about this!! Anxiety is something I have dealt with the majority of my life. How severe it is comes and goes, and right now I’m going through a rough patch with it. I’ve been looking for more things like this and coping mechanisms. I applaud you for being brave enough to open up about your struggle and share it! I haven’t heard of this technique before, but I’m definitely going to try it out.
Keep more posts coming like this, I found your blog recently and love it!
