As I mentioned before, 30 is THE YEAR I get serious about skincare and as luck would have it, I recently met Leah of Leah Chavie Skincare. The universe is funny like that.
I’ve noticed some fine lines and the texture of my skin isn’t quite what it used to be. Most importantly are my discoloration issues. I have hyperpigmentation BAD. It’s not only annoying, since I used to love to go makeup-free, but a huge insecurity.
I’ve always been intrigued by laser skin treatments and had hoped they were the answer to my skincare issues. Cosmetics lasers are cutting edge and one of the few treatments celebrities will admit they indulge in (and they ALL do it). But, with so many types to choose from and technology that’s ever evolving, I felt intimidated.
Leah gave me the 411 on the three most common types of laser skin treatments that I am sharing here with you today! Get the low down on lasers below:
Laser Genesis:
Best for: fine lines, wrinkles, pore size and refining skin texture
How it works: By gently heating the upper dermis below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.
Ouch Factor: on a scale of 1 to 5: about a 1
IPL (LimeLight)
Best for: hyperpigmentation, sun spots, freckles, age spots and redness.
How it works: a light-based procedure which addresses problems right at the skin’s surface. It’s often referred to as a photofacial and uses a light rather than a laser beam.
Ouch factor: On a scale of 1 to 5, about a 3. This was the most “painful” of all three lasers but it was more uncomfortable than anything. It felt like little rubber bands snapping on your skin. Pain is beauty my loves–but truly not THAT bad.
TITAN
Best for: tightening loose, sagging skin usually at the jawline , neck and cheeks.
How it works: Titan works by heating and absorbing the water from your skin. When this happens the brain thinks theres been an injury and send fibroblasts to heal your skin and stimulate collagen growth. To put it quite simply: it stimulates natural collagen growth.
Ouch Factor: on a scale of 1 to 5: about a 2.
I’m currently undergoing a program at Leah Chavie Skincare with ALL three of these lasers and I can tell you they’re NOT painful, highly effective AND there’s no downtime. The pain level is a uncomfortable at best and you might experience a little redness, but you could totally return to work after treatment.
I am working on a HUGE post with pictures before, during and after my laser skin treatments. I’m downing a glass of wine at the thought of sharing those pictures publicly but I’m all about bringing some REALNESS to the blog.
Oh and real quick: I paid for my treatments and all opinions/experiences are my own. I just sincerely want to take you all along the journey with me. If you’re considering laser treatments and live in Chicagoland, I highly recommend Leah Chavie Skincare.
Have any of you tried laser skin treatments? What was your experience?

Hello, my name is Maria and I am 56 years of age. I suffer from hyper and hypo pigmentation, which I have just learnt is from having thyroid issues all my life.. actually i have hashimotos disease. I have always been told i should not touch or use any products as they could possibly worsen. After years and years of scheduling appointments and cancelling them due to nerves I am booked in at The Temple, here in Baulkham Hills to have facial laser treatment. The machine used here is an Italian machine called Xlase.. Still nervous but excited. I love the result you have, you look amazing. Fingers crossed for me!! Thanks for sharing, great post and you rock!! Cheers Maria
