First, apologies for the hiatus from the blog. I’ve been traveling for 2 weeks STRAIGHT (Miami, Toronto & Nashville) but you already know that if we’re friends on IG. Anyways I am back with a full editorial calendar of gems to share!
Let’s dive back in to the the “better for you beauty” series with Witch Hazel!
I was fist introduced to the wonders of witch hazel during my teen years for it’s spot/blemish control. But back then clean beauty wasn’t a “thing” and I wanted to wear Noxzema masks and Biore strips like all the cute girls on TV. Don’t lie, you did too!
Now that I’m older and wiser (LOL), I’m beginning to revamp my icky, chemical filled beauty routine for healthier swaps. I am WILD about witch hazel because it has SO many uses.
What Is Witch Hazel?
Let’s get slightly sciency for a moment. According to wikipedia, witch hazel is an astringent produced from the leaves and bark of the North American Witch Hazel shrub (Hamamelis virginiana), which grows naturally and was widely used for medicinal purposes by American Indians.
Uses For Witch Hazel:
Witch hazel is great for treating acne, skin conditions, sunburn and minor wounds thanks to it’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Truly, it’s the antioxidants that make witch hazel such a wonder. When applied to our skin, witch hazel protects our cells from damage and helps healthy cells regenerate, clearing our pores and healing wounds faster. Witch hazel also improves circulation and reduces inflammation.
Why I’m Wild About Witch Hazel:
- After I cleanse my face, I use witch hazel on a cotton ball every night as a toner. It tightens pores and gets them squeaky clean.
- I keep this DIY rose water mist, made with witch hazel, in the refrigerator. Each morning I spritz to wake up my face. I even use it OVER my makeup as a setting spray/hydrator.
- I use it to de-puff my eyes! Submerge a few cotton balls in witch hazel and pop them into a baggie in the freezer. When you need to de-puff, remove them from the freezer and place them under your eyes for a few mins.
- Did I mention a big bottle costs about $10? When choosing a witch hazel, be sure to choose a 100% organic, alcohol-free option for the purest and most effective results. My favorite brand here.
Oh and I am also testing out a yoga mat cleaner for you guys!! I’l share the recipe soon. Perhaps I’ll do an Instagram live? Thoughts?
Have you guys tried witch hazel in your beauty routine? How do you use witch hazel?
PS: I did some reorganizing on the blog. Now, on the menu bar and under “beauty” you’ll find a section dedicated to “better for you beauty” so you can access this info quick & easy!
