It’s our first Christmas in our new home and while I definitely wanted to go all out, we still have rooms that need furnished so I had to dial it back a bit!
I made due with the things I had from apartment living over the years and thankfully I was the lucky recipient of a few gorgeous hand-me-downs from family members.
My parents came to town after Thanksgiving to help us deck the halls! I am thankful for these seasoned vets because having lived in tiny apartments in Chicago for the last five years Matt and I are kind of clueless, especially when it comes to handing lights and wreaths outdoors.
My mom is an AMAZING decorator and the requests have been pouring in from Instagram however she’s not for hire. She really should have made a career out of it because she’s so talented, but she does it for fun because and genuinely enjoys it!
Since I had to be mindful of budget. Here are a few pro tips I learned:
- Make your own bows! Ribbon is inexpensive and there are plenty of Youtube tutorials. Promise it’s not that hard!
- Inexpensive trimmings like ribbon or the large clip-on poinsettias I have on my live tree, really help fill out greenery when you don’t have a lot of ornaments.
- Landscaping spotlights are cheap (under $10) and really help your outdoor decor POP. I have mine centered on our window wreaths since we didn’t do Christmas lights on our house this year.
- Shop the sales before Black Friday! My mom advised me to pick up the things we needed before Thanksgiving because afterwards things get picked over quickly. Most craft stores were already doing 50% off at this time too!
Do you guys go all out decorating your home for Christmas? Have any money saving tips for Christmas decor?
