I wasn’t going to do a post on face rollers because I feel like there’s TONS of articles and blogs on the subject already. However, every time I use my ice roller on Instagram, I ALWAYS get questions about it and how it’s different from jade rolling.
I thought I’d put together a quick post on the different types of face rollers and how I personally use them, so that it can live on the blog for reference!
I prefer to use two facial rollers: an ice roller in the morning & a jade roller night.
The point of each face roller is lymphatic drainage. Each time I’d see my facialist, she’d give me a lymphatic drainage massage and I SWEAR my face would lose 5 pounds. Since I unfortunately can’t see her for a lymph drainage facial daily, I put a few tools to use at home to achieve a similar result.
AM Routine: Ice Roller
I like to use my ice roller in the morning because it’s nice and cold and helps to depuff. I usually ice roll first thing in the morning while I’m making my coffee (so, 1-2 minutes). I wrote a full post on the 411 of ice rolling, but in addition to reducing swelling/puffiness in my face it’s also strangely addicting.
PM Routine: Jade Roller
In the evenings before bed, I will then use my jade roller. Jade is known to relax the nervous system and eliminate toxins in the skin. I like to wash my face and use the jade roller after I apply my serums and just before I slather on my moisturizer. I LOVE jade rolling because it drains congested lymph nodes, helps stimulate collagen growth, increases stimulation and help’s rid the body of toxins.
How to use a facial roller:
If you’re new to facial rolling, you always want to start at your jawline and roll up and out. If you’re a visual learner and need a tutorial, this one is great!
So does it really work?
I feel it’s a great way to temporarily contour your face and it’s strangely addicting. It’s definitely ALL about consistency and remembering to face roll daily.
I also don’t think the “trend” is going anywhere anytime soon (at least not in my beauty routine).
In fact, there are some other facial rollers out there that I’m dying to try:
- A rose quartz face roller is similar to the jade roller, only you’re getting the properties of rose quartz which is love (self-love), healing and anti-aging. You know I love my crystals and each tote different healing properties so it’s just a matter of mood or preference.
- The Nurse Jamie Uplift roller -lined with tourmaline stones, this roller is a celeb cult favorite. I’d say this is the most heavy duty facial roller. It comes with an instruction manual and I’ve heard it’s a great tool to flush out that double chin. #bye
- Gua Sha is a little more intense than facial rolling but the results are immediate and very noticeable. We will call it jade rolling on crack! I think this will be my next experiment. (Gua Sha comes in both jade and rose quartz).
