(Gilded sonogram by Mediterra Ink)
Oh baby! I am SO thrilled to finally be able to announce that I am pregnant. It’s been tough keeping it a secret for so long. Plus it’s the real reason for the lack of posting on the blog (hello 1st trimester exhaustion). While I’ll admit this news was a bit of a surprise, I couldn’t feel more blessed to be growing our family.
Now that the first trimester is behind us, I am excited to share all things BABY!
How We Found Out:
While my husband slept, I nervously took a pregnancy test at 7 AM. I am the WORST morning person on the planet so I gave the test all of 30 seconds before I decided it was negative, threw it in a drawer and went back to sleep. When I woke up to brush my teeth, I opened my drawer and saw a big, fat POSITIVE sign staring back at me. I convinced myself it was just because it had been sitting too long and decided to try another. When that one was positive too, I slowly started to absorb the news.
I waited until 6 PM when Matt was done with work to let him in on the news. I told him that our yorkie Sonny had something he wanted to show him. With that he pranced into the room donning a “big brother in training” sweatshirt that my sister-in-law gave me years ago for this very moment! My husband was definitely as surprised as I was, but we’re both super excited.
Due Date:
April 14th, 2018!
Morning Sickness:
Right now I’m 16 weeks and have been feeling pretty great the whole time. While I escaped morning sickness, I did have some pretty bad headaches, dizziness and total exhaustion. I think I took a nap everyday for the past 14 weeks. Now that I am in my 2nd trimester, I am SO happy that my energy has returned.
Favorite Moment So Far:
Seeing the baby bounce around on the ultrasound and hearing it’s heartbeat!
Physical Changes:
No bump yet and no stretch marks. Mother’s Blend toning oil was highly recommended and I’ve been using it daily after I shower, pretty much since the moment I found out.
Also, I’m going to be totally honest when I say dealing with the inevitable weight gain has been tough. When you’ve trained your mind for SO long to focus on staying as fit as possible, it’s hard to let go of that idea and be ok with the fact that your body will change. I’ve been trying to stay positive, continue to eat healthy and move my body daily.
Cravings:
I haven’t had any really strong cravings yet, though I do find myself allowing more carbs and saucy things (lookin’ at you pizza/pasta) than normal. I also LOVE to eat juicy fruit (watermelon, pineapple, etc) after dinner. I realize I sound like those annoying celebs who pretend they only crave sweets in the form of fruit but it’s the TRUTH.
Keeping it real, I thought I’d have an extremely hard time without my wine. I’m Italian and glass at night is basically life. I’m not sure if it’s my motherly instincts kicking in but I don’t miss the juice whatsoever.
Diet:
I am normally a healthy eater and thanks to no morning sickness, have pretty much been able to keep my diet of lean meat + veggies.
I started a prenatal vitamin + DHA the moment I found out I was pregnant. I also take JuicePlus gummies to make sure I’m flooding my body with super nutrition (30 diff fruits and vegetables to be exact).
I DO still drink a cup of coffee in the AM as my Dr. assured me one is perfectly fine.
Workouts:
As you guys know I’m extremely active. My doctor assured me I could and should keep doing all the same workouts I was doing previously. I was instructed just not to add anything new. I workout 4-5 times/week and try to take one yoga, barre and orange theory class per week. I’ll fill in the gaps with a 2-3 mile run on the treadmill and some strength training.
That said, I think it’s SUPER important to listen to your body and not push yourself. So, somedays my workout is walking at an incline while listening to a podcast.
Best Purchases:
Our king sized bed! Ok maybe not the answer you were expecting, but since we don’t know the sex of the baby we haven’t purchased a thing for him/her. Instead this purchase is more for mama! I am a stomach sleeper so transitioning to my side is REALLY uncomfortable. The extra space really helps during all the tossing and turning.
Best Books or APPs?
I LOVE the bump app which helps me follow along the pregnancy. This week baby is an avocado LOL! I also just ordered some books this week including —Happiest Baby On The Block, Babywise and Nurture –perhaps I’ll do a post and update you on these?
Ok any other first time mamas out there like me? How about the veterans with good advice for us first timers? Would love to hear from you all!!
Also let me know if you’d like to see more motherhood type posts in the future!!

How many times did you try to get pregnant before your cute little baby finally decided to fertilize his egg? We’ve been trying for 2 years with no luck. Any tips?

Hi! Probably not what you wanted to hear but it happened pretty easily for us. Before getting pregnant I was in the best shape of my life, eating the healthies I ever ate and only using CLEAN beauty products. I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it? Good luck yo uou!!!
