Good Vibes Only 🙌 . You’ve seen it all over social media, on the t-shirt of the yogi next to you and perhaps it’s a phrase that you live personally.
BUT does the “Good Vibes Only” movement cover-up a large part of the human experience? I’m talking about grief, pain and sadness. The lows which make the ups feel so damn good.
One of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve ever received is this: “allow yourself to feel what you need to feel”. This has always stuck with me and whenever I encounter a negative situation, I remind myself to acknowledge the bad feelings, let it ride and then work through them.
While the “Good Vibes Only” theory seems great on paper, it perpetuates the ideology that people should bury those not so nice feelings and just think positive thoughts. First of all, it’s extremely unhealthy. Second, when you prevent yourself from experiencing the darkness you become a fake. As humans, we’ve been given a range of emotions, ALL of which we’re meant to experience.
Long story short: I am full of emotions and I’m not afraid to use them. 😂
All jokes aside, give yourself PERMISSION to face the darkness. You can’t ignore negative feelings forever, they’ll haunt you until you heal them.
And guess what? When you come through to the other side, Good Vibes will be waiting for you and it’ll be THAT much sweeter.
DISCLAIMER: I am a green juice loving, yogi who is ALL for good vibes…MOST of the time.

Such a great post! I totally agree with you on this one Erika. We definitely need to allow ourselves to feel more than just happy thoughts. When I’m facing a hard time or something negative I like to talk it out or deal with it, I’m not one of those people who likes to sweep things under the rug. This is only going to build up and create one big explosion! I love the saying good vibes only, but it’s not something that’s realistic all of the time!

Thanks so much for your well thought response! I recently found myself feeling bad about having negative thoughts/emotions, which was soon followed by this “ah-ha” moment where I was like…ok I give myself permission to feel this way! It’s healthy and needs to be worked through in order to be whole and happy!! Hopefully some other ladies will see this and know it’s “ok” to face the darkness in order to appreciate the light! Always appreciative of your support as well!! xoxo
