Although the idea of throwing a New Moon ritual might seem a little “woo woo” I can assure you that this witchy practice is going mainstream and for good reason.
The full moon is a time for manifestation as our energy is the most strongest. This is the time to DREAM BIG, connect with your higher self and plant seeds of intentions for what you wish to call into your life.
Since there’s a full moon tonight, I thought it’d be fun to share some ideas on how to harness the moon’s magic.
Why host a New Moon ritual?
Most of us lead busy lives which cause us to become distracted and misaligned from our truth. The New Moon provides us with an essential opportunity to take the time to create space for us to look inward and connect to our heart.
What exactly is a New Moon Ritual?
A new moon ritual helps you to set intentions, clear energy, gain clarity, let go of negative habits and connect to your higher self.
How to host your own New Moon Ritual:
Ready to make some moon magic? The good news is there are no hard and fast rules about how to host your own new moon ritual. You can either choose to gather and celebrate with friends or perform the ritual on your own.
Here’s one way to host a New Moon ritual…
- Begin by selecting a gathering space. if it’s nice, maybe go outside and bring some cushions and blankets. Otherwise make sure your space is clean and clutter free.
- Next, clear the air and the energy by smudging your space with palo santo or sage. Start setting the mood: light some candles, use some essential oils, pull out your crystals and ready your journal.
- Begin your ritual by sitting for a few moments in silent meditation.
- Set your intention and write it down in your journal! The New Moon is a great time to make a new beginning or to renew your commitment to an old resolution. Write down a couple of words or phrases that reflect what you hope to get out of the ritual. If performing the ritual in a group, take turns sharing your intentions with one another.
- Once you feel at peace with your intentions, burn the intention you’ve written to symbolize the letting go and releasing of that which does not serve you. As the paper burns, imagine your words/intentions being carried up and out with the smoke into the universe. If safely burning your intentions is not an option you can also submerge them in a bowl of water.
- To complete the ritual, sit for a few more moments in reflection or burn the sage.
