Being Gino’s very first Christmas, this time of year seems exceptionally magical! While he’s still too young to know exactly what’s up, I love when I find him staring out of the car window in awe of the Christmas lights and the way he happily bounces around while listening to holiday tunes.
Aside from picking out our live tree as a family, Christmas PJs and visiting Santa Clause, I wanted to start new special Christmas traditions for Gino for this year and all the years to come.
Growing up, my parents would always give my sister and I our jammies early on Christmas Eve. We’d slip them on and watch The Muppet Christmas Carol before writing a note to Santa to leave alongside his milk and cookies. It always felt warm and fuzzy to do the same things each year.
Last week my husband Matt and I were putting the final touches on our Christmas tree which included all of our fun and sentimental family ornaments. Recently, Matt’s mom had given us all the ornaments from his childhood and we had SO much fun laughing and discussing the memories of each.
I decided that every year on St. Nicholas day, which happens to be today, I’ll give Gino an ornament that represents something from his year. He LOVES to clap his hands, roll around and eat butternut squash BUT his favorite thing ever might be the song Three Little Kittens. I never want to forget how his eyes light up once he recognizes the first few notes. So, I found this Three Little Kittens ornament that’s as perfectly adorable as it is cheesy to commemorate his first year.
I hope that one day, years down the road, Gino will be trimming the tree with his wife and first baby reminiscing on the memories and joys of his childhood!
Ok, now I’m crying. Gotta go….
PS: do you have any fun family traditions? Please share!
