While getting in shape for my wedding, there are two workouts I can definitively say CHANGED my body: boxing and reformer pilates.
I did these workouts in addition to a strict cardio and strength training schedule which I am planning to share soon! Also if you haven’t already, you can download my Here Comes The Bride Meal Guide, developed by my friend and registered dietitian.
Instead of rewarding myself for sticking to my diet and fitness programs with cheat days, I started treating myself to reformer pilates classes!
Don’t let the word “treat” fool you. I mean at first glance the reformer kinda does resembles a torture chamber!
All jokes aside, although this muscle-elongating, body-shaping, core-chiseling workout is NOT easy, it’s VERY effective. I started noticed results after just a few sessions. Not only was my body was long and lean in a way that it’s never been before, I felt STRONG.
So without further ado, I want to turn it over to a professional! Pilates instructor Molly of Lateral Fitness here in Chicago, kicked my booty while letting me in on everything you’ve wanted to know about reformer pilates. See our Q&A below!
The 411 on Reformer Pilates:
What is Pilates Reformer?
The reformer is a bed-like piece of equipment that will help you find your proper posture and safely, efficiently and effectively change the health and look of your body.
Why is it better than mat Pilates?
The springs on the reformer add resistance, which provides another element to your workout and can actually improve your mat Pilates practice. The resistance will give you more range of motion and add intensity to your workout!
What Are the Benefits of Pilates Reformer Exercises?
A few benefits of working out on the reformer: increased muscular endurance and core strength, improved posture, flexibility and breathing. Also, the reformer can be customized to suit everyone from rehab patients to elite athletes!
Assuming you follow a healthy diet, how soon will you see results?
Of course this will vary depending on each individual, but active individuals doing 2-3 classes a week will see results within 10 classes.
