To be honest, I’ve felt pretty indifferent about turning the “Big 3-0”. That is until the day before my birthday, while walking into work sipping my latte and listening to my morning meditation, I found myself just inches away from being hit by a car running a stop sign.
In that moment, I felt an INSTANT shift toward gratitude. The ability to live another day, let alone another 365, is a gift that’s not to be taken for granted. Getting older is a privilege and not everyone is afforded the luxury.
So, as I sit here on the eve of my 30th birthday (at the time of writing this entry), I find myself at a loss for words. As it turns out, it’s not all that easy to define a decade!
The Highlights: I graduated college, traveled, attended New York Fashion Week twice, found great love, scored a dream job, became a dog mom, moved to Chicago, Soul Cycled with Lady Gaga, visited Italy twice, was 6x a bridesmaid, became a public transportation pro, launched BABESKILLS, got engaged, attended the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, designed a t-shirt w/ my besties that sold out 3x, became an auntie x 4, dipped my toes into the Mediterranean, built an inspiring home office, planned my dream wedding, ran a half marathon, made incredible friends and SO much more!
Being the goal oriented person that I am, I sometimes catch myself feeling like I haven’t “done” enough. However, when I take a moment to reflect on the years, I can’t believe how much I’ve been able to see and do! So much has changes in the past 10 years, including myself.
I’ve throughly enjoyed my twenties–being young and fancy free. I can’t wait to see what my ’30s have in store for me.
Today I challenge you to take 5 minutes out of your day to either jot down or make a mental note of TEN great things you’ve seen or accomplished in the past ten years! My guess is that you’ll find yourself smiling on fond memories and best of all, feeling GRATEFUL.
If anyone would like to share their list in a comment below, I’d love to be a part of your journey!
